About   odescalchi
Erba-Odescalchi, or Odescalchi-Erba is the name of a Roman aristocratic family since the beginnings of the XVIII Century.==The Spanish Branch of the Odescalchi and the Cernesio_Odescalchi, (circa 1580 - 1811)==
There were however Spanish nobility, from Valencia, Constantino Cernesio y Odescalchi, (Valencia, Spain 28th January 1585 - 1664, single, no issue) , promoted to 1st Count of Parcent on 10th July 1649 by King Philip IV of Spain.
He came from the Italian families of bankers and merchants from Como , Italy, named Cernezzi and Odescalchi and was a cousin of Pope Innocent XI, Pope from 1679 to 1687, cited below. This banking house had correspondents in Milan, Venise, Rome, Naples , Nuremberg, Krakow...
This first Count of Parcent, single, was the son of a Geronimo Cernesio or Geronimo Cernezzi, resident in Valencia, Spain, who had married an Italian resident in Spain described as Naudia Odescalchi, daughter of a Guido Constantino Odescalchi and grand daughter of Bartolomeo Odescalchi and Lucrecia Rusca.
A brother of this Naudia, but resident in Italy, was Livio Odescalchi born 1580, who married Paola Castelli, and got no less than:
1)Lucrecia Odescalchi, born 16 October 1605, who married Alessandro Erba, (born 5 November 1599 - 31 August 1670).
2)Benedetto Odescalchi, (Como, 16 May 1611 - Pope 1676 - Rome, 12 August 1689), a.k.a. Pope Innocent XI, no issue.
Therefore, Naudia, mother of the first Count of Parcent, was the aunt of Pope Innocent XI.
The 2nd Count of Parcent was named Manuel Cernesio-Odescalchi y Tárrega, (deceased 1684), Spanish cousin of the later Italian Pope Innocent XI, , was promoted to Knight of the Military Order of Montesa on 15th December 1654 by King Philip IV of Spain, and married twice, within the de Calatayud and the de Perellós families having a female by his 1st marriage, Luisa, and then a female, Josefa, and a male José Manuel, the 3rd Count since 1684.
The 3rd Count of Parcent , José Manuel Cernesio - Odescalchi y Perellós, (Valencia, Spain, 16 March 1672 - 3rd Count 1684 - married 1688 - ????) was awarded a Grandee of Spain on 13th August 1709, by King Philip V of Spain.
His brother in law, the husband of step sister Luisa, was named Juan Luis Soler-Marrades y Vich, Count of Sallent, and received an Austrian title as Count of the Holy Roman Empire.
He married twice, first in 1688 with Maria de Bazán , no issue, daughter of Grandee of Spain and aristocrat Francisco Diego de Bazán y Benavides, Francisco Bazán de Benavides, Viceroy of Sicily 1674 , then, with Ana de Guzmán y Spínola, daughter of aristocrat Pedro José de Guzmán Dávalos y Ponce de Leon, Governor of Panama, getting thus the:
4th Countess of Parcent, Josefa María Cernesio - Odescalchi y Guzmán , (Valencia, Spain, August 1724 - married February 1746 - 1779) with issue, 8 males/females, changing thus the family name with the 5th Count of Parcent to:
José María de la Cerda y Cernesio - Odescalchi, (Madrid, 23 April 1747 - married at Zaragoza 1768 - Valencia, 17 September 1811).
The following generations will not use therefore these Italian names, the name de la Cerda as such disappearing in 1931 with the death of the 1st Duke of Parcent, (title awarded in 1914), using since then the Polish-Spanish compounded name of Granzow de la Cerda as it is used today.
The Odescalchi and Erba-Odescalchi in Italy
Besides the Italian Odescalchi mentioned above when dealing with the Spanish branch, we should mention:
  • Alessando Erba, (6 November 1599 - + 31 August 1670) who married Lucrecia Odescalchi, born 9 October 1605, eldest sister of Benedetto Odescalchi, (Como, 16 May 1611 - Pope 1676 - Rome, 12 August 1689), a.k.a. Pope Innocent XI, with no issue. She got however with her husband:
  • Antonio Maria Erba Odescalchi, 1st marchese di Mondonico, born 1624, who married , Teresa Turconi, (1657 - 1733), the daughter of Aloisio Turcone, (born 1602), the grand daughter of Ludovico Turconi, (born 1569).
  • They got no less than 3 children:
  • Alessandro Erba Odescalchi, 2º marchese di Mondonico, born 1677, who married Apollonia Trotti, (1689 - 1737).
  • Claudia Erba Odescalchi, (1681 - 1747), who married Pompeo Litta, marchese di Gambolò.
  • Baldassare I, 1st principe Odescalchi, born 1683, who married Eleonora Maddalena Borghese, (1694 - 1731).
  • There were also Odescalchi promoted into the Austrian nobility at the end of the XVII Century and the beginnings of the XVIII Century, from this powerful banking and trading family from Como in Italy.
These Erba- Odescalchi from Austria, are supposed to be descended on one side from Enrico Erba, imperial vicar in Milan in 1165,through Alessandro Erba and from his wife Lucrecia Odescalchi, family related to Benedetto Odescalchi, a.k.a. Pope Innocent XI,born 1611, Pope from 1676 to 1689, who engineered a Coallition between Austria, Poland and Russia to reject the 1683 attack by the Ottoman Turks to Vienna.
    thumb,Sirmio and Ceri, (1652 - 1713) , Italian nephew of Benedetto Odescalchi , (1611 - Pope 1676 - 1689), a.k.a. Pope Innocent XI]] ‎
These Papal Odescalchi´s, from Como, could have been descended from Giorgio Odescalchi, (Jioruit at Como, in 1290.
The title of prince of the Holy Roman Empire was conferred on Alessandro Erba - Odescalchi in 1714, and that of duke of Syrmium in Hungary in 1714, with the qualification of Serene Highness.
  • There is a Livio, Prince Odescalchi, Duca di Syrmia [Sirmio], Duca di Bracciano, Duca di Ceri, etc (13 Feb 1725-1804), who is probably the son of the Baldassare I stated above and who married in 1747 Maria Vittoria Corsini (ca 1732-1797). There was from this marriage:
  • Baldassare (II?), Prince Odescalchi Odescalchi, etc, (Rome 1748-Rome 10 Aug 1810), who married in 1777 Caterina Giustiniani dei Principi Giustiniani (1761-23 Nov 1813).
  • Innocenzo Odescalchi, Prince of the Holy Roman Empire , Duca di Syrmia (in Hungary?), e Ceri, etc (22 July 1778 - Obermeidling 24 Sep 1833) who married:
  • 1st, on 10 Feb 1801, Anna Luisa Gfn Keglevich von Buzin, (d.13 Mar 1813) and then:
    2nd), On 13 Mar 1831 Henriette Gräffin Zichy-Ferraris zu Zich und Vasonykeö (10 Feb 1800-Vienna 12 Dec 1852).
Apparently, the head of the family now bears the titles of Furst Odescalchi, duke of Syrmium, prince of Bassano, and others, and he is an hereditary magnate of Hungary and a grandee of Spain; the family, which is one of the most important in Italy, owns the Palazzo Odescalchi in Rome, the famous castle of Bracciano, besides large estates in Italy and Hungary.
